​Muscle can contract in three different ways: isometric, concentric and eccentric. In the last few years several studies found out that eccentric type of exercises for hamstrings are strengthening the muscle and reduce risk of injury in the footballer population. There has been a lot of chatting and debating about Thibaut Pinot compressed position, lower saddle during the Tour of the Alps. Changes in the training workload and preparation have had an impact on the saddle position for some pro-cyclists. It is important to remind that from a clinical point of view, lowering the saddle increase quadriceps activation and subsequentially pressure at the knee. My personal opinion:
Pros - better upper trunk and overall body stability, better aerodynamic position
Cons - it is not effortless to sustain this position, climbing in the standing position is not comfortable as having the hoods straight
